New Mexico State Presents Basic Skills Program

The Center for Public Utilities at New Mexico State University is presenting a program entitled The Basics:  Practical Regulatory Training for the Electric Industry and Natural Gas LDC Industry.  The course will be held at the Sheraton Uptown Hotel in Albuquerque from October 9-13, 2017.

This program is designed to present a hands-on framework that shows the interrelationships of the industry topics and provides a set of analytical skills required to understand the issues related to each.  The primary audience of the course is commission or company employees with less than one year of experience in the regulatory arena.

NARUC Summer Policy Summit in San Diego

The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) will hold its Summer Policy Summit in San Diego, from July 16-19.  State Commissioners and staff members from around the country will meet in various committees and subcommittees with an eye toward developing NARUC policy on several important issues of interest to the regulatory community.

Policies developed at the summer meetings may be acted upon at the NARUC annual meeting in Baltimore in November.       IEF

NCSL Annual Meeting in Boston

  Monday, August 7, marks the beginning of the Annual Meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) in Boston.  The NCSL’s mission is to “improve state legislatures, foster communication among states and ensure a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system.”  Several Illinois legislators are members of key NCSL committees.  The NCSL serves the legislators and staffs of the nation’s 50 states, its commonwealths and territories.  It is funded by the states and governed by a 56-member executive committee.  For more information go to www.ncsl.org/summit.        IEF

 

Boston Hosts EEI Convention/Expo

   This year’s Annual Convention/Expo of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) will be held at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston from June 11-14.

More than 1,200 top decision-makers of domestic and international firms from energy-related fields will be on hand to discuss critical industry issues.  In addition, attendees will be able to attend the Expo 2017 Exhibit Hall featuring new products and services.

MARC 2017 To Be Held In Chicago

The annual meeting of the MidAmerican Regulatory Conference (MARC) will be held in Chicago from June 18-21, 2017.  The Illinois Commerce Commission is a member of MARC along with public utility commissions from several Midwestern states.  Illinois Commissioner John Rosales is this year’s President of MARC.

IRPS Conference to Be Held on April 27

   The Institute for Regulatory Policy studies at Illinois State University is sponsoring a conference entitled “New Legislation on Future Energy Jobs, Lead & Water Pollutants and Federal Policies” on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel in Springfield, Illinois.

The conference will focus on three issues concerning (1) recent legislation on lead testing and how water utilities are meeting the challenge; (2) changing perspectives on energy from a national outlook; and (3) the implementation and impact of the Future Energy Jobs Bill.

CBR Regulatory Reform Monograph Series in Chicago

The Center for Business and Regulation of the College of Business and Management at the University of Illinois-Springfield is hosting a two-day event in Chicago on January 12-13, 2017.  The title of the program is “Frameworks for Regulation of Public Utilities in the 21st Century.  The program will be held at the University of Chicago Gleacher Center in the River North area of downtown Chicago.

Former Illinois Commerce Commission member Karl McDermott is Director of the Center for Business and Regulation.  Among the speakers at the event are Anne Pramaggiore, President and CEO of Commonwealth Edison Company, and Brien Sheahan, Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission.

NARUC Winter Committee Meetings in Washington, DC
