THE following are some bills of interest to the energy industry that have been filed during the Spring Session of the 96th Illinois General Assembly:
House Bill 4649 (Rep. Dan Reitz, D-Steeleville) and Senate Bill 2485 (Sen. William Haine, D-Alton) – would provide an alternative procedure for Illinois Commerce Commission approval of construction of high-voltage electric transmission lines. HB 4649 passed the House; SB 2485 has been assigned to the Senate Energy Committee.
House Bill 5491 (Rep. Don Moffitt, R-Gilson) – would establish fines for residential owners who violate the State’s underground facilities damage prevention law (J.U.L.I.E.). Assigned to House Public Utilities Committee.
House Bill 6108 (Rep. Bob Flider, D-Mt. Zion) – would allow customers to request temporary suspension of natural gas meter charges under certain circumstances. Assigned to House Public Utilities Committee.
House Bill 6202 (Rep. Will Burns, D-Chicago) and Senate Bill 3426 (Sen. Michael Bond, D-Grayslake) – both bills deal with expanding the State’s net metering law. HB 6202 has been assigned to House Public Utilities Committee and SB 3426 has been assigned to Senate Energy Committee.
Senate Bill 3686 (Sen. Don Harmon, D-Oak Park) – would continue the statutory preference for purchase of Illinois-based wind power for an additional five years and would expand the solar power requirements of the State’s renewable portfolio standard. Assigned to Senate Energy Committee.
Senate Bill 3693 (Sen. Don Harmon, D-Oak Park) – would establish a procedure to require natural gas utilities to purchase receivables from alternative gas suppliers. Assigned to Senate Energy Committee.
